CYPRUS
Beneath grey skies
there's a key in the drawer
soon I'll return
to a distant door.
Nothing pretentious
it precariously lies
on Europe’s far edge
under cobalt blur skies.
A luxury apartment
a treasure that's priceless
a welcome retreat
I'll return soon to Cyprus.

Hmmm I don't share your enthusiasm. Commercialised cities, desert lanscape with hills but nice people.
There are more attractive countries but I know the island so well and all the off-track places away from the tourists, the archeological sites, and the hidden gems (never venture into the big towns) and the apartment is top quality on a luxury site - built by a private developer who has become a friend over the years - very quiet and sedate.
One of my friends has just came back from Cyprus, had a wonderful time. She is Greek Cypriot and her family live there.
I am sure that you will enjoy yourself, you always seem so to do.
My daughter-in-law is Greek Cypriot and has just returned from the apartment - we have many local friends out there.
When ya going? When ya coming back? Where's Miss Berles going on her hols? Or has she been away already?!
Haven't set a date yet but probably early in the new year when my knee has fully recovered.
Well being of half Cypriot descent I have to agree don’t I?
Do you go to the Greek side?
Yes the apartment is in the hills outside Paphos. have been into the North but always a problem with hire cars because of insurance issues.
Lovely rhyme Michael - - what a great way to holiday under a "cobalt blur sky" - -- bon voyage my friend.
I have known it rain there but that is the exception.

The border restrictions do maintain a very divided country - but both sides of the divide are equally worthy.
a beautiful poem and picture combination... a beautiful island too
Well I think so but then I would.
Love the painting! And the poem ain't bad either! 🙂
Never was on Cyprus and probably never will be, but your poem at least gave me an idea of the place.
