Caught.

Fay Slimm.

Caught.

Air-blue flew the skirt of quick
freshening breeze.
It danced as it travelled thru'
rustle-dry meads.

Oozed danger over thick thorn
lacking water.
Shook leaves against rock split
with heat's torture.

Stirred dust until wisps of light
smoke caught thin twigs.
Lit, the first glow birthed fire's
dread beginning.

Like a side-winding snake shot
flame down a hillside.
Eyes who had seen this before
became frightened.

Dense woodland stood waiting
caught in the affray.
Timber when seared to glazed
arid will conflagrate.

Forest blaze boasts no respect
for life in the wild
Inferno's most insatiable greed
leaves no survivors.

  • dusk arising

I used to see the ccommon land on fire when i lived across the valley from Burleigh and Rodborough near Stroud. To watch from across the valley the advancing line of fire was astounding.

I never saw woodland fire first hand though.

Again you capture our natural world in your words. Hard to see the beauty of this aspect of earth, wind and fire when we know the death and destruction it leaves behind.

Yet still we build houses and communities in the prospective fire zone and bring in our loved ones and precious possessions. We must be mad/naive.

whether a natural disaster, or of mans making, such events are devastating to our world in general and particularly the habitats of all those with whom we share the planet.... I have seen several such fires close up... fearsome and fast they be..... Another perfectly penned composition my friend.....

The ferocious and sad inevitability of spread of a relentless fire. There’s a metaphor in these poignant words ...

  • ANGELA & BRIAN

ANGELA HERE (9:30am Saturday - AMEN) Forest Fires are often a natural phenomena and provided there is no loss of Animal or Human Life (or property) its is cathartic for the Land and it all ends well ! However ther are additionl factors today (21st C !)
    1. These FIRES are increasingly being caused (accidently or directly) by Human Activity these are the most destructive !
    2. Mr Trumps Myth ~ GLOBAL WARMING is another anti-environmental cause of Forest Fires. The ground & trees are bone dry which can cause the Fires which are so intense the destroy lots of wild life and human habitations and sometimes PEOPLE ! You have aptly versed a very horrible & increasing phenomina ! We should be proud of all the School Kids who have been on the Streets today waking up us Oldies ! Because they will still be alive in 2090 and suffering for our inaction ! Thanks for shaing & caring !

    Blessings & Peace & Joy
    Love ANGELA 🧡🧡🧡🧡
