Celestial City - New Jerusalem

orchidee

Tune: Lasst Uns Erfreuen

('All creatures of our God and King')

Revelation 21 v.4 and v.21-27

********

The new Jerusalem, city

Each of twelve gates a pearl it be

O praise Him, Alleluia!

The street of city is pure gold

As transparent glass it shines bold

O praise Him O praise Him

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

In that city no Temple be

The Lord and Lamb that Temple, see

O praise Him, Alleluia!

The Lord God Almighty is He

And Jesus Christ is the Lamb, see

O praise Him, O praise Him

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

The city had no need of sun

Neither of moon, not even one

O praise Him, Alleluia!

They shine not there, for God's glory

Does lighten it resplendently

O praise Him, O praise Him

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

The Lamb, Jesus, is city's light

He does illuminate our sight

O praise Him, Alleluia!

The saved nations shall walk therein

But nothing there of evil, sin

O praise Him, O praise Him

Alleluia, alleluia, Alleluia!

The gates shall not be shut at all

For there the night does never fall

O praise Him, Alleluia!

Nothing of darkness, lies, or sin

Shall ever enter it within

O praise Him, O praise Him

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

They who written in the Lamb's book

Of life, they have not Him forsook

O praise Him, Alleluia!

They enter in, no more death, pain

Sorrow, crying, ne'er named again

O praise Him, O praise Him

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

They shall bring the glory, honour

Of the nations, and them confer

O praise Him, Alleluia!

In that city of endless days

God with His people there always

O praise Him, O praise Him

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. metre with Alleluias. A lady at church, age 94, said she heard a piece on the radio about the Pearly Gates. I then felt inspired to write this for her.

There's no sea there wither. Aww, can't go the beach! But the sea is said to represent separation - so no more separation there.

Indeed our hope is in Heaven, Orchidee, and your poem inspires me to sing along with the heavenly hosts whom proclaim: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia - a new Heaven and Earth He will create!

Love the shout-out to St. Francis of Assisi too in the uplifting video. He is a Catholic saint and the founder of the Franciscan order - Pope ‘Fancis’ chose the name Francis for his pontificate inspired by the tradition that tells us St. Francis received a message from Christ to rebuild his Church: “Francis, repair my house, which is falling into ruin.”

Thanks Gary. St Francis is remembered on October 4th I think.

Yes, Catholics also celebrate St. Francis on October 4th!
