HARVEST IN 19th CENTURY AMERICA ๐Ÿงก ANGELA & BRIAN ๐Ÿ’™

ANGELA & BRIAN

HARVEST IN USA IS CALLED THANKSGIVING ~ CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER

Heap high the Farmers Wintry hoard ~ High heap the golden CORN

No richer gift has Autumn poured from out her lavish HORN !

WE better love the hardy gift our gold wheat fields bestow

To cheer us when the storm shall drift our harvest fields with SNOW !

WE sowed the seed o*er hill & plain beneath the Sun of May

And frightened from our sprouting grain marauding Birds away !

All through the long bright days of June its leaves grow green & fair

And waved in hot Midsummers noon its soft & yellow hair !

And now with Autumns moonlit eves ~ its Harvest time has come

We separate the Ear from stalk and bear the Harvest home !

There richer than the fabled gift ~ Apollo showered of old

Fair hands the ripened grain shall sift ~ and kneed its meal of GOLD !

Thanks for visiting ~ comments welcome ~ Angela & Brian ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก

A fine hymn-poem rite A&B. I feel I could set this to a more well-known, and harvest, hymn-tune - if you wish! I don't like to tinker too much - not change the meaning of it.
I know the song - so it's quite old then! But only 1982?

Thanks Uncle Steve - ANGELA here (10pm Thursday) I think SLIM WHITMAN was around in the 1940-50s - Nice song - nice tune. The hymn is older - what tune do you suggest ? It suggests Harvest in the USA in the 1800s no COMBINES !

Blessings & Joy for YOU & Prissy Pooch

Doh! it would be old, wouldn't it?! lol. The search came up as John Denver singing it in 1982.
Well, the tune 'Golden Sheaves' - 'To thee O Lord, our hearts we raise'. Though maybe a little less well-known than some harvest hymns. Shall I go ahead?

A beautiful written poem that we could harvest from the crop on my poetic side. I felt like going to buy some fresh corn ๐ŸŒฝ I should plant some. Yes, Iโ€™ve got inspired. Just finished harvesting the guavas. I will look into planting corn.

THNAK MARIJOY ~ Pleased you enjoyed our Presentation ! They dont make Country Singers like SLIM WHITMAN any more ! A Fave of My (BRIANS) Parents. Angela is in Auckland New Zealand on a work exchange ~ coming home next month ! The climate in Auckland is sub tropical like Florida ~ So the Corn is as high as an Elephants Eye so they can grow Guavas & Grapes & Kiwi Fruit and Citrus ~ AMEN ! I (BRIAN) love to visit Friends of My Parents near Tampa and after Church they have boxes of Oranges & Grapefruit FREE ! But you can throw a few dollars in the box if you wish. I love in S England near London ! With GLOBAL WARMING our UK Grape Harvests get better each year and our wines compete with France Italy & Spain but we cant grow CITRUS YET ! Harvest is a great time of the Year. We dont have THANKSGIVING in the UK (only on the US Bases) but we do have HARVEST FESTIVALS and distibute the produce to the Homeless & Destitute ~ OK

              Blessings & Peace & Joy
              Love ANGELA & BRIAN
