Asking.

Fay Slimm.

Asking.

Then as the knots of love

were tightened,

earth underneath us and

above us the sky,

we lay down to prove, in

matured twilight,

coupling's ripened delight

you and I.

Then life bade us lose our

much loved tie

with you beneath earth and

me asking why.

  • dusk arising

Beautifully written poem of 'love's story' in mature years and the inevitable toll of our humanity.

The 'Why' we all ask is perennial as the wind which blows, and the wind upon a tear stained bears no answer as solace instead begins to dull the pain and haunt the eyes.

Your comment is truly appreciated dear dusk - it is indeed a fate all lovers face and so far cannot get an answer to a grief-stricken Why........... thanking you humbly and true............. Fay

Those last two lines... Truly heartbreaking. This is a wonderful poem Fay. Sad but wonderful and beautifully expressed... A life together... Then lost. Yes, this is a lovely poem.

Humble thanks Clara for your visit and comment on the poem Asking - it can indeed be heartbreaking for lovers to have to part that way................ but so glad you liked the feel of the verse.

Dear Angela - you chose to use the word Cherish as days of love surround life with happiness and I think that is exactly the right word - time and circumstance can take joy away when parted by such as the verse indicated - yet memories if mounted on being appreciative will always be there to sustain grief................. love is worth such commitment and wishing you love that lasts for Ruby and Diamond years - -and more.......................... hugs from Fay

Beautiful poem. 'Why' the unanswerable question in our lives.
