Broken Dreams

Clara

Have you seen that man?

He is clothed in dust and dreams

The weight of her children sheltered upon his back

He walks for miles in broken boots

For he, himself, if he was alone

He'd be content to sit on the side lines of the road

His sole company a bird's serenade

His mind adrift on memory bliss

Nourishing on the thought of her

Their mother, his wife

The woman He took too soon.

  • Fay Slimm.

A tale within the first line of this tantalizing read Clara - - you take an imaginative circumstance and weave such a story that readers like me want a second installment - first class writing my friend.

    • Clara

Thank you kindly Fay. I could've certainly got lost in his story. The image in my mind, of a man clothed in dust and dreams... Family... Nature... The journey. In truth, there was a lot to say but I decided to end there. Thank you for your time as always.

    • Neville

I really enjoyed the journey.. at first I thought of Saint Christopher, then Saint Francis of Assisi, then some bloke who lives in the next village.... Nice one Clara..... Neville

Neville, thank you. I too got carried away on his journey. I had the line in my head, clothed in dust and dreams, for days and I had to write his tale. I could have gone on and on. Thank you for your time as always.

        • Neville

          you are truly welcome...

        • ANGELA & BRIAN

HI CLARA ~ BRIAN HERE ! In the last analysis LIFE & LOVE can be very CRUEL ! It is very sledom (except by design) that lovers die on the same day ! And whenever ONE LOVER dies ~ it is always TOO SOON ! All we are left with are our MEMORIES ! Angela and I are getting married and we hope to still be alive (and together !) for our RUBY WEDDING in 2060 ! However instead of 40 years we could only have 40 months ! SO we will cherish each day ! Please check our latest POEM *Discovering a New Cave* and our latest FUSION *National Ode Day* ! You can post a POEM ~ on Any Subject & in any Style !

Blessings & Peace to YOU & YOURS
          Love BRIAN & ANGELA ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™

          • Bragee

            wonderful writing,
            enjoyed the journey,
would be very interested in the rest of the journey should it ever be written.

            • Clara

Hi, thank you kindly Bragee! I think there may be a wee sequel to his tale. Thank you for the encouragement!

            • Michael Edwards

A great journey and that last line is so enigmatic - I can read into it - a cliff hanger.

              • Clara

                Thank you kindly Michael.

                Haunting, mesmerizing, a gem!
I cannot imagine how hard it must be to lose one's wife. "He walks for miles in broken boots"....dragging a broken heart.

                • Clara

                  He does indeed, thank you!

                • Goldfinch60

                  • Poetic Dan

Dam it, you made me cry I guess this healing is never done! Thank you for such beautiful words, it can only reflect your own soul!

                    Much peace and respect

                    • Clara

Thank you so much Dan! I'm honoured you stopped by and read through my past few poems. Having a little bit of a block at the moment, I can't force it because my words just come out all wrong. So I'm waiting, albeit impatiently, for inspiration to strike!
