BEYOND THE RIVER

Michael Edwards

BEYOND THE RIVER

Funnels derricks masts and jibs

abut foreboding foggy skies

where heavens bodies hide unseen

the tidal flow denied their light

and all that’s seen by squinting eye

the ghosts of steamers, barges, wherries

tugging  straining ropes and buoys

along the heaving river banks

unseen unheard beyond those banks

the restaurants the pubs the clubs

with busy street sounds, neon spilling

neath the same foreboding skies

Wonderful Michael, I was there as your words took me to that place.

    Super artwork as well.

Thanks Andy - I remember once being impressed when on a boat on the Thames how quiet and remote it all was from the life on shore.

Very true Michael, the peace found when on water can be quite profound.

Good write and pic M. Is Miss Berles going up the river with a paddle - or up the creek?

        • Michael Edwards

She's got the paddle but no creek - going nowhere slowly.
