Dirty dishes litter table and kitchen
The last guest just walked out the front door
You are all by yourself, nobody to pitch in
Nobody to help you with your chore
The party was swell, a great success
They all had fun, were raucous and loud
Now you are stuck with a big ugly mess
Left behind by the birthday crowd
Another year older with nothing to show
You sit at the table with a last glass of wine
And silently wonder where the time did go
If at last you had reached the bottom line
The mind says it is time for a change
To search and look for something new
To evaluate and maybe re-arrange
The life you are now going through
It is not so easy though
To leave old habits behind
Much easier to go with the flow
Than to change your heart and mind
But in the end you have no choice
You know what you have to do
To fervently give the thoughts a voice
And re-invent a brand-new you

Too tempting to not ask you.... why invent a new you? what was so wrong with the old one....?? Isn't only the environment which chnges. Rather than re invent 'grow'.

Mahalo d a!
You have a point. But, when you are not happy with where you are or where you are going, you might have to change more than just your environment. You might have to change yourself, see things differently, act differently, get rid of old habits, start new habits, etc. Don't just 'think' about doing....do!
I've always been smugly happy with myself so the poem doesn't speak to me directly but I do see it in others - well expressed Fred.
Mahalo Michael,
Personally I feel like you. Sure there are things about me that could use some improvement or change, but overall I am pretty happy with myself.
We change every day as each day brings a new challenge and once that challenge is overcome it becomes part of out experience to give us the power to face new challenges.
(I can see a poem there - watch this space).
Thanks Goldie, am looking forward to read your poem about change!
Oh I know - I have to stay behind each year and clear up after the Hastings 1066 Party. See ya there!
Thanks orchi, I guess 'somebody' has to do all the dirty work. Just make sure you don't get too much into the whiskey or ale during the party!!!
He won't he waters down everything! He even tries to put water in my whisky. I saw him do that once and that is why he sings falsetto!
Great poem! I think you got your point across perfectly and chose a beautiful way to portray your words 💛
