Well it’s all over,
Now I have another four years,
Another four years to wait
‘Til the Rugby World Cup is back.
What a wonderful tournament,
Rugby played at the highest level,
Enjoyed by all.
After all forty four matches,
All seen by me
The final was here,
England playing South Africa.
It was hard,
It was brutal,
But no animosity.
Won by the Springboks,
Deservedly so on this occasion,
Well done South Africa.
But throughout all the matches,
Both on and off the pitch,
There has been humour,
Humour, good heartedness,
Good heartedness and respect,
Respect for all.
Yes South Africa won the cup
But there was another winner,
Another winner in sport,
And that winner was the game,
The game of Rugby Union.

- Comment from author about the poem: I have watched ALL the matches in the Rugby Union World Cup, all forty five of them, there should have been forty eight but three were cancelled due to the typhoon that struck Japan. It has been a wonderful experience where there was no animosity, only smiling, talking and respect off the pitch. South Africa deservedly won the final but the greatest winner was the sport of Rugby itself. "A game for hooligans played by gentlemen."

And it's a loud 'hear hear' from me - fine write about a great sport.
Thank you Michael, it was a great tournament.
Good write Gold.
Thank you Orchi.
A South African friend of mine wanted them to win of course!
THANKS UNCLE ANDY ~ For a fine tribute to a fine GAME ! Because of the high points awarded (unlike SOCCER) SEVEN (for a converted TRY) and THREE for penalties & Drop Kicks which all go over the BAR scores of 100+ are not uncommon ! Whereas in SOCCER a score of 10 or more makes HISTORY ! Like the recent Cup Game between Liverpool & Arsenal (usually so defensive) after a PEN shootout Liverpool (of course) won on agregate 10 : 9 ! There is no rhyme or reason in RU results (Angela is still supporting NEW ZEALAND) NZ beat RSA we beat NZ a priori we should have beaten RSA but they hammered us ! Im glad ANGELA talked me out of paying ยฃ11,000 for a flight ~ hotel and a seat next to Prince Harry ! However we had a Wedding in the Peak District on Saturday and listening to the BIG MATCH on the Car Radio would have been very third class ! So we went on FRIDAY NIGHT to the Premier Inn near DERBY and watched the Match on the BIG Screen ! There were no Springboks staying @ the Hotel so were shared the humiliation of defeat with 30 others who (mercifully ~ no Scots Welsh or Irish) were all England Supporters ! Some of the Ladies were in TEARS and none of us ordered an AMARULA ! As you say we*ll have to wait another four YEARS but at least we got a SILVER and ANGELA a BRONZE for NZ ! Poor Wales (like England in the Soccer Cup) back to the VALLEYS with a wooden love spoon !
Blessings & Peace to YOU & JOYCE
Love ANGELA & BRIAN ๐งก๐๐งก๐๐งก
Well done!
Thank you Jon.
My pleasure!
