Dawning Day

Tune: Winchester Old

('While shepherds watched')

Isaiah 9 v.2-3 and v.6-7

*********

The people that walked in darkness

Have seen great light, no less

They that dwell in land of shadow

Of death, they light now know

They joy before you [Lord] as the joy

Of harvest, their employ

Is, as they gather good things in

Fresh praises they begin

For unto us a child is born

Upon redemption's morn

Unto us is given a son

Saviour for every one

And the government it shall be

Upon His shoulder, see

His name shall be called Wonderful

And Counsellor of all

And He named The Mighty God, He

E'erlasting Father be

The Prince of Peace, of the increase

Of His rule be no cease

His government and peace no end

From Him none e'er can rend

Descendant of David, His throne

Unrivalled, [He] does atone

For sure He shall rule endlessly

His kingdom ordered be

Established shall be with judgement

Help to the penitent

And justice too, henceforth for e'er

He shall with  us fair share

The zeal of the LORD of hosts will

Perform this, fervent still
