Early Summer?

Goldfinch60

I stand on the lawn,

Mallett in hand,

Balls in front of me.

I look up and am amazed,

The sky is clear blue,

Not a cloud in sight.

A beautiful summers day

Playing croquet with friends.

But is it an illusion?

How can it be so fine,

So wonderfully sunny,

On the third day of the year.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I was playing croquet yesterday in bright sun the only clue to the time of the year was the heavy clothing I was wearing, it was chilly but looked like a summers day.

A fine write Gold. Yes - Michael and I have not got fleas! It's the uticaria (only slightly for me) with itching if very cold weather. With Fido it might be fleas!

Your first three lines made me think I was about to read something bawdy but... no.

Observational stuff, you wait. Soon you'll be shivvvering with those wooden balls frosted and stuck to the grass..... nowt so inclement as our weather.

Our chariman was asked if there was a close season, he did say we couldn't play for a couple of weeks last year!
