What once was his

Amelia R

She strived to love him as he loved her,

For he made each day less of a blur,

But she pushed him away day upon day more and more,

Like forlorn waves washing upon the shore.

He loved and laughed and shed a tear,

Though crying was only present when ghost was near,

She sat and wept through heartbreaks galore,

Her tears like shingles, till ghost was born.

Although the sea swept by, coral blue,

Her love for life vanished like some forgotten clue,

He swore she would return to what once was there,

But in the morning her spirit disappeared.

He continues to think about the girl he was with,

As indeed the sea has taken her - she is gone, a myth.

For now, all that remains in his hands,

Are the remnants of seashells washed up on the sand.

  • ANGELA & BRIAN

ANGELA HERE (I share this site with my Fiance Brian) - Welcome to MPS it is a very empathetic site so you should get some encouraging comments. Thanks for your first Poem - it is excellently penned in quatrains of rhyming couplets with good meter which makes it perfect to recite ! The content is enigmatic & mystic and yet it does fnd echoes in real life experience. Im 31 so I have had several liaisons before I met Brian when I was 28 and he was 33. Our relationship is very real and we are getting married in April !
The reltionship in your Poem is ephemeral and almost in the Spirit World.

(Love) Like forlorn waves washing upon the shore
Her tears like shingles - till ghost was born
Her love life vanished like some forgotten clue
As indeed the sea has taken her - she is gone - a myth

Great lines some of which ring a bell with me and my former beaus. I never got engaged because some of the Men (often in the Medical Profession - Im a Physiotherapist) seemd rather ephemeral & uncommited - Like the Man in your melancholy Poem. I craved for commitment and to be married & start a Family ! Brian is a Scientist and some of his Ladies also lacked commitment to Marriage & a Family. So when we met we were perfect for each other after disappointments in Love. I have never been preegnant & Brian has never fathered a Child ! We live in Essex and its good to have someone from Scotland. Being near Burns Night (25.01.20) & BREXIT (31.01.20) we have combined the two tomorrow and penned *Ode to Brexit* in the Burns Meter - enjoy !

    Blessings & Peace & Joy
