Tune: Lux Benigna
('Lead, kindly light')
Luke 2 v.25-32. For Candlemas (Feb 2) -
The Presentation of Christ in the Temple
*********
Behold, in Jerusalem, Simeon
A holy one
Just and devout, he was there awaiting
A wondrous thing
The Holy Spirit did to him reveal
A sure promise unto him He would seal
For he should not see death before he saw
The Lord's Christ pure
Babe presented in the Temple that day
Was the Lord's way
His age forty days since His lowly birth
Jesus Christ, He the Lord of heaven and earth
So Simeon took Christ up in His arms
The healing balm
And blessed God, saying, *Lord, now let depart
My servant heart
In peace, according to your word, for my
Eyes have seen your salvation, no deny
Your salvation in Christ you have prepared
With all Him shared
Before the face of all people now shown
He by all known
A light to lighten the Gentiles, thus view
The glory of your people Israel too
------------
* The words from here to the end are called
Simeon's 'Nunc Dimittis' (adapted for the poem).

GOOD SUNDAY~ To you Uncle Steve ~ just off to Church ~ Im a GREETER (On the Door !) this morning. Being a FREE CHURCH we have started serving Coffee & Donuts ~ before the Service ~ It ensures FOLK arrive early ~ especially our *MEN & LADIES OF THE ROAD* People ignored them at first (they smelt like Human Beings) but now they get a hug even from our most *scented* Ladies ! They all sing lustily and I have noted ALWAYS throw a few mites in the BAG ! Our Church is very informalwith lots of lafter & tears. Love the hymn & remember *The Garish Days* when I was a. TEEN ! Love the POEM ~ a reminder that Jesus was raised as a good Kosher Boy ! I figure if he came back for spell (not the Parousia) he would be more at Home in the Synagogue than the Chapel ! Jewish Services have the utmost reverence & presence of JEHOVAH ~ AMEN
Blessings & Peace to YOU & Saint Bernard !
Love in the Spirit BRIAN & ANGELA ๐งก๐ค๐
Thanks B&A.
Good write Orchi.
Thanks Gold. I learnt that snowdrops are also called Candlemas Bells. 'Songs of Praise' was from my home town recently! They chose to broadcast mainly a Gospel Community Choir (some blacks in it) held at the Town Hall. Churches here range from lively to the living dead. Doh!
