There are things in life
That you feel you have to do,
Do to help others in your life,
But sometimes this encroaches,
Encroaches into your life,
The life you need
To move forward,
To move forward for yourself.
At those times it can be hard,
But opportunities in life,
Opportunities in your life,
Can be infrequent.
If that gateway opens
Walk through it,
Walk through it into a new world,
A new world of happiness,
Happiness and self-belief.

- Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this for a friend of mine who feels that if she moves forward into a new life she will be letting people down who she has always helped in the past.

I know the feeling, but I'm sure that your friend, or anyone else, wouldn't be letting others down. Unless they were doing it from entirely selfish motives. But they will have thought of others, so they won't be selfish and uncaring.
Can you help? Should I move forward, and make the decision - move to the desert to continue singing? Or to Pluto?!
Thanks Orchi. No it is not selfish it is a quandary which has come into her life which has never occurred to her before. All I can do is listen and hope she can work it out in a good way.

People fear change sometimes, even when that change would be the best thing for them. It takes courage to change and let go of what you know
Very true SC, change can be challenging but it can be for the good.

Always GF
I truly agree that opening doors need to be walked through and am sure this message will help your friend. Good points made in your poem dear Andy.
Thank you Fay, much appreciated.
It's about conditioning and a certain kind of narrow mindedness. Now nobody would justifiably accuse you or me of being narrow minded. Part of positivity is seeing opportunity and following a path to realise it.
However it also has to be said that some are also held back by guilt. The guilt of survival and a underlying fear that they must be seen to be being respectful in mourning ... mourning for the rest of their life?
Perhaps they need to be asked how guilty they feel for letting their departed's spirit see them so lacklustre? Do they honestly believe their departed would not like to see them doing things which brought happiness?
Just last week i had this conversation with a bereaved customer of mine who has much to offer but locks himself away. I'm hoping my words will stir him into action and i shall be following it up.
Change can certainly be hard sometimes as we have seen in our lives d a but most of those changes have taken us to a better place, maybe with some regrets but we look at life in a positive way and find the best in the new, I hope my friend can see this as well.

A great write to return to and I agree with the sentiments - he who never places one foot in front of the other has no place to go.
Thank you Michael - very true.

Your words ring true. If only if was so easy to put oneself first... Great work!
Thank you Clara, occasionally in life you must put yourself first otherwise you would have nowhere to go.

Hope your friend follow her heart and find a way out. She is lucky to have a friend like you.
Thank you mandm, I hope she finds her way as well.

Enjoyed this poem!
Thank you Jon.
The only thing that does not change is the fact that there will be change. Sometimes we just have to close our eyes and jump!
Thanks Fred, I agree nearly every time I have jumped life has been wonderful.
