What Poetry is All About

FredPeyer

To be a poet is arduous

To be a good poet even tougher

Occasionally catching

Thoughts rising from

The sludge of our minds

In no particular order

Gutting them like fresh fish

Staring at the raw ideas

Adding salt and pepper

Dressing them up in

Fancy clothing

To show them off

In black on white

A new-born baby set free

Into a cruel and dangerous world

Forever uncertain but hoping

That critics who themselves

Never write anything original

Will understand eventually

What poetry is all about

Very true. But in order to live, one must be set free to face the world. You never know, what you might see. It may be beautiful afterall. Great work.

Wow Fred, there's a lot in there of my spilled emotion whilst i write.

Recently i was told by a young man what poetry was all about because he had been taught the facts he recounted by a published poet.

Oh go away with your lecturing script i thought for my poetry is whatever pours out from my soul.

One day i may publish online and be damned if i care what you think yet another day dawns to find me trying to sculpt a finery of words seeking praise from those i respect.

Do I understand what is poetry about... i don't know if i do.... i'm just caught up in it's spell.

              Thanks d a,
what a great comment. Thank you very much. Poetry is like a woman. If you love her you don't need to understand her. 🙂

Indeed Fred, what is poetry about. Yes there are rules for specific types of poetry but all poetry comes from the heart and the heart does not follow any rules. Our words are feelings onto paper and rules are not necessary.
              Good thoughtful write.

and what you say shows in all your writings!
