Music has always been with me,
All my life it has been there.
Classical and jazz ruled
And have lasted the test of time.
I was there in the sixties
When the world was changed,
And life became open to the world.
Where the old music was changed,
Changed into the modern sounds.
The modern sounds were fine,
But still in my heart classical and jazz
Ruled supreme.
There were songs of the time
That I saw as being for slow old people,
But now I am a slow old person
And accept that those songs were good.
And the older I get
The more music I listen to,
So that I now listen to music
That I would never have done
In my youth.
I now know that there is so much music,
So much music to listen to.
But there is also
So little time.
I believe I know a great deal
A great deal about music,
But it has come to me
That the more I know about music,
The more ignorant about it
I realise I am.
So much wonderful music
Is still out there
Out there for me to hear.

- Comment from author about the poem: Music is so important in my life - and always has been. The video is music by Giovanni Marradi who I came across for the first time last week.

A fine write Gold. Singing has always been with me, as music with you - yes? A pity many people wish I'd never started, but it can't be helped. heehee.
Thanks Orchi, as I say to people who join our Community Choir, everybody can sing, we could even get you singing.

Strangely now i listen to less music than i used to. I find i have become somewhat intolerant of other peoples choices of playlist on the radio etc (and radio adverts drive me nuts.... this is intolerant old man syndrome i guess).
Spoiled by appreciating Jazz and musicians/singers who made themselves excellent through research and practice I find myself disappointed with much that is around today.
But i love to spend twenty minutes bashing out chords and singing along to my tiny cheap ukelele.
I do miss being a part of a group/band.
Long may you enjoy the love of music ... look after your hearing for losing that would be a huge disappointment for you besides which you wouldn't be able to hear the abuse shouted at you on the croquet lawns.
As you know d a, I am always listening to music of many kinds, last night I decided to listen to a band you may have heard of, The Modern Jazz Quartet. The first album I played was 'Blues on Bach' and the second one was Place Vendome where that played with the Swingle Singers.
They daren't abuse me on the croquet lawn my Mallets bigger than theirs.
