It's When...

Saxon Crow

It’s not when you smile at me

First thing in the morning

Or even when I make your milk

While you’re still quietly yawning

It’s not when you finally wake

To start a brand new day

Or even when you call to me

Because you want to play

Its not when I see something new

That you have learnt to do

It’s definitely not when I change your nappy

After you’ve had a great big poo!

It’s not when you have your nap

And I get peace and quiet

It’s not when you wake again

Ready to start a riot

It’s not when tea time comes

And we are sitting at the table

Or even when the TV says

Children’s time is over

It’s not when I’ve run the bath

And you splash and kick around

Or even when you’re soaking wet

And the duck is finally found!

It’s when it’s time to tuck you in

That I love the most

Because it’s me and you

And your favourite book

Cuddled both up close

I let you fall asleep so sound

With my arms around you tight

And when I finally put your down

It’s that moment, that moment there

That always makes me smile

Because even though you are fast asleep

After a fun filled happy day

I know I’ll see you in the morning

To do it all again

    A fine write Crow.

  • Fay Slimm.

A picture of loving care filled with scenes I remember when mine was small -- those bedtimes were the highlight of every day - books and snuggles - great read.

Quite beautiful saxon. Gone out of my life are those times and i thank you for your words today which brought the feelings back to me.

Now I have two granddaughters and don't have a hope of sharing their magic moments, for the one who was once the babe i put to bed is their dad and he gets those moments.

I must admit i am quite precious about putting my little.girl to bed. Its the only part of the day, bar weekends, that i have my time with her

Wonderful write SC those times are so precious. When my son was a babe we had that fun all day, he never stopped but as soon as his head hit the pillow he went straight to sleep and even now forty plus years later he still does the same.
