Wallpaper Row.

Goldfinch60

So many years they were married,

A wonderful loving relationship

Where arguments were trivial,

And rows never happened.

Except once.

Just over the one thing.

The battle was fierce

But no blows were struck,

But in no way could they agree.

Except that once,

So many, many years ago.

And that is why

The wallpaper in their house

Is over fifty years old

  • Comment from author about the poem: I was playing croquet against a ninety year old lady yesterday and obviously we chatted, her husband died a couple of years ago and, as Joyce and I, they had never had a row in the long marriage except she said they rowed about what wallpaper to put on the walls. I said there is a poem in that and this is what I wrote for her - a lovely lady who may have been ninety but still very fit and wonderful to talk to.

Great piece of observatiuonal poetry. We've been married for 56 years and, like you, we have had disagreements but never had a full blown row. Anyway we don't (and haven't for a long toime) got any wallpaper and are minimalists when it comes to decor. Ultra modern and not anything like an Oxfam shop.

I haven't got room for wallpaper, too many of our daughters artwork (and one of yours) haning on the walls. I don't decorated I just put up another artwork.

A fine write Gold. I was over-ruled in a work-place. I said 'Blue-Tac tears paint off walls'. They said 'We're gonna fix notices to the walls with Blue-Tac anyway'. They (or one) didn't listen!

So true Orchi, some people just do not listen to good advice.

She never listened to anyone hardly - she was the boss, so heigh ho, there you go. Had to bow to her infinite wisdom! Doh! On freshly painted walls too.

Well done for playing what has been my favourite piece of music for many years (though i prefer the studio version). I wore out three copies of that LP on vinyl before getting it on CD.

Quite remarkable you couples who never argued.

I thought you might enjoy that d a, a great band.
Joyce and I argued but never rowed and it seemed the same for this lady and her husband.

Angela here - Good morning Uncle ANDY ! Love the cool jazz great way to start a day ! Love the Poem. Brian & I get the keys to our First House on Saurday 21st March very exciting ! We quite like the wallpaper but will change the shade of the distemper to lighter shades. In my experience wallpaper is an optical illusion ~ never looks the same in the BOOK as it does on the WALL. When were in B & Q buying Distemper I noticed in the Wallpaper Section that they had a device which showed how the paper would look in a room ~ AMEN. Evening clinic today so Im free to browse MPS this morning ! Please check our latest Poem *ONLY YOU* You will remember the PLATTERS great harmony - great song ! Our POEM is dedicted to FAY. A humour like yours can produce grreat poems and the lady will love it I'm sure - wallpaper has been known to cause divorces I hear -

                    • Goldfinch60

Thank you Fay, I hope to be able to give her the poem this weekend.

                      • Goldfinch60

Thank you Neville. I often get poetry from seemingly odd things in real life. Life is so inspirational.

                      • myself and me

Sometimes, you just can't believe that people would have a big argument about something like that. It make me laugh. The lady will love it.

                        • Goldfinch60

Thank you mandm. Very true, arguments can come from such trivial items.
