A Walk to My Willow.

Goldfinch60

“I am back” I say to My River.

It has been so long,

So long since I could walk,

Walk by its side.

The floods have abated

And My River is back,

Its water flowing gently,

Flowing gently by my side,

Barely a ripple to be seen

Except where the swans sail by

In their elegant style,

So calm,

So beautiful.

Then I see the ducks

Sitting on the land,

Bathing in the sun,

So elegant in their iridescence,

At peace with nature.

I walk further

With the trees for company,

The new life

Springing from their buds.

I come to my turning point,

My friend, the Willow, is there,

Is there to greet me,

Greet me as she always does.

Her branches weep for me

In tears of joy,

Glad to see me again

As I am seeing her.

I greet her with a smile,

A smile of joy

At natures beauty,

And natures resilience.

Happiness pervades my heart

As I walk back along My River

Knowing that all is well,

And My River will always be there,

Be there for me.

A fine write Gold. Hoping for more Spring-like weather for walks?
If the battle-fields had flooded in 1066, I would never have mucked it all up. Doh!

      • Goldfinch60

Those walks will become part of my life.

The river through our village is more like a large stream again. All the little islands have emerged as have the little red flags which denote locations of water vole presence (holes droppings , sightings). So uplifting - couldn't spot any fish but they'll be there - my wife and I take a different route each day as our allowed 'exercise'. Looking forward to todays walk in sunshine again - it is all so uplifting in these sad times.
And your poem captures it all - keep writing Andy - I allways enjoy your postings.

I am glad your stream is back and all is fine. Enjoy your escapes into the fresh air as I do.

            Keep well

That river of yours does you a power of good. But you are supposed to be self isolating you vulnerable old codger!

Lovely writing from you today goldfinch.

            • Goldfinch60

Being an old codger means that I am sometimes forgetful - very useful excuse to walk along My River.

Thank you d a, much appreciated, I hope you are well and will remain the same.
