Victim of Loneliness?

Goldfinch60

Into isolation he went,

A man of older years

Trying not to get the virus.

He was told to stay at home,

Nobody could visit him,

It was not allowed.

He was ‘phoned each day,

His daughter ‘phoned him.

Then one day he didn’t answer,

And his daughter cried

As she said these words,

Such sad words:

“He lived alone,

He died alone,

He was buried alone”.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is a VERY sad poem. I saw this on the news an Italian lady was told of the death of her father who had been in isolation due to the Corona virus and the words she said that brought sadness to me were “They live alone, they die alone they are buried alone”. I had to write something. To make matter worse I have added possibly the saddest scene in Opera, the final scene from Rigoletto, whenever I hear this after listening to or seeing the opera I am always in tears - I often wonder why it is my favourite opera.

    Andy,

Unfortunately that’s the situation. Northern Italy has been hit the hardest...and now it’s making its way South! They are not as well equipped as the North. There will be more deaths by the hundreds...I’m sorry to say!😭

    Be safe and stay well!

      Hi Laura,

It is such a shame, so many will no longer be with us but we must try our best to keep ourselves and others free from the disease.

You stay safe and well also Laura.

My prayerful thoughts for your daughter that she will be okay. Her age is on her side. A friend of mine has recovered from it.

With age comes a myriad of blessings and trials but one rare quality is given to a few of us. Being seen to be noble by others. There is no price to it, no route to it, it is there or not there. Maybe it is rare because he/she who sees nobleness is rare also.
