Blimey!

Goldfinch60

Blimey! That took me back,

Back to those days of childhood

Where we would mark the pavement,

The pavement by the side of the house.

One ,

Then two and Three,

Four,

Then five and six,

Seven,

Eight and nine,

Then ten.

Now there it was

Across the road,

A mum and her boy

Hopping and skipping

From number to number.

So much fun they were having

From a game so very old,

And all it needed

Was a piece of chalk

And a small stone.

Hopscotch was still alive,

And my childhood had returned,

Returned in my mind.

Yes, so much more fun than playstation/nintendo and any kid passing by could join in. Boys would stop by and enjoy the sight of girls with their skirts tucked into their knickers playing hopscotch.

Did u play 'snobs' too? That's the game where you have five cubes which you toss up into the air a foot or so and catch them on the back of your hand with fingers splayed... that was fun, though not so energetic as hopscotch. I wonder how those two got their names?

Yes not a 'phone or tablet in sight. And yes anybody could join us - great times sadly missed nowadays.

I certainly played the game you call 'snobs' but it was not called that we called it 'fivestones' - being from Kent maybe we were the snobs you refer to.

Having just looked up the games they both have references in Greek and Roman times - I may be old but not that old.

Yes - us two (and others) remember it well. We recall games from 11th Century too (1066). I was only playing darts when I said to Harold 'Look up, Sire'.

      • Goldfinch60

Well your dart missed - AGAIN!.

Aww, yes, I was only playing darts - that's my excuse!

And I remember it too - light years ago. Thanks for the write.

So many years ago in those innocent times.

Good Morning Uncle Andy ~ Love Cavalleria Rusticana ~ just enjoying it *Home Alone* with my Morning Coffee. I am old enough (36) to remember the final decads of the 20th C. We had a *hopscotch* painted in the Primary School Playground and we all played *Ollies* with glass marbles (prized parrots etc) and *Jinx* with bottle tops etc etc. Technology has a lot to answer for. Angela & I love JIGSAWS but kids groan now if you give them one for a Present. At our Conference Centre @ Sizewell Hall in Suffolk we always have a 1000 piece *Jiggy* on the go and as many as 20 poeple often join in (spasmodically) in a W/E Retreat. TV & radio is verboten ! My initial task on the Jiggy is to complete all the edges and leave the middle for the Hoi-Poloi ! Thanks for sharing a *memory lane* ! Please check *The Solar System*

            Thanks BRIAN ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

The jigsaws that I do are a bit more complicated as you cannot find all the correct straight edges as some are in the middle of the puzzle.

Yes I remember hopscotch so well Andy - - my friends seemed so good at it and always won - - good fun though - - loved the number you chose today.

              • Goldfinch60

Thank you Fay, much appreciated as always.

                Andy
