Hooligans.

Goldfinch60

So many workers cannot work

So we pay for them out of our taxes,

That’s OK it can’t be helped.

But what about the footballers

Being payed thousands of pounds per week

While others suffer in our country.

Why should they still be payed,

Payed thousands by their employers

While you and I

Pay for their staff?

Have they no care,

No care for others

Who come and watch them cheat,

Cheat at the game every week?

Soccer is a game for gentlemen

Played by hooligans

Who are over-payed

And show no care for others,

Others who need help.

  • Comment from author about the poem: As you may gather I am not a soccer fan and in this current situation in the UK where those who are unable to work because of the Corona Virus many are being payed by us out of the taxes we pay. This also include the backroom staff at the top football clubs. Yet the footballers themselves are still being paid there full amount the highest being over sixteen million, YES SIXTEEN MILLION, pounds per year. Why cannot they pay for their backroom staff! This is surely daylight robbery from those who are helping our country get over this horrible pandemic. OK rant over! The video is extremely moving.

Sometimes I wonder: What is the point of sport? Or some sports anyway.
Well, exercise and enjoyment of supporting Clubs, etc. But it wouldn't matter a fig, if there was no sport at all. Wouldn't change anything one way or the other.
I mean - boxing is insane - two people hitting each other, but being paid for it. Doh!

    • Goldfinch60

I can understand the need for sport, I have been playing all types of sport but my main one was table tennis which I played for over 30 years, obviously now it is croquet - when I can get back on the lawn!

Yes, some sports are good - company, exercise, friendship, etc. But as you say, not greedy footballers salaries.

      • Poetic Dan

Love it every word! Sports & games should be that! But sadly those that support see it as their life, a religion even a family!
I got many beatings over football as a young man so I'm with you my friend! Times have been slowly getting crazier for every from what I can see lol

        • Goldfinch60

Thank you for that Dan, I have played many sports but never football except in the playground at school. As you know my current sport is croquet.
There is too much money in sport nowadays, especially soccer.
          Keep well.

Whereas i agree with you, it appears we are out of step with society. Now society, by financially supporting football clubs - paying to attend matches or subscribe to tv channels - are condoning 'cheat if you can get away with it' attitude. Not at all the standard that i was brought up to favour.
Is it any wonder that there is so much crime today? Those who are caught and put before a judge are given joke sentences.
Back on the football field, I would send the buggers off as soon as they committed a single foul, yes until there were only five or six players left on the field.... a learning curve might begin in those circumstances.

          • Goldfinch60

Totally agree. Especially about sending the buggers off the field. The sad thing is though that on the odd occasion that I see kids playing football in the streets they too pull jerseys and shirts as if it is the norm.

With you all the way on this one - it's taking more than just the p**s out of of us all.

              • Goldfinch60

Thank you Michael - it sure is.

Brian here ~ Evening Uncle Andy ~ Loved the Video (and the Film). There is something majestic about a watching a live Orchestra and as a Child I had many opportunities to listen to the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic ~ Awsome ! Itwas the same with Foouball ! Bill Shankley said *Its more important than Religion !* Ironically ~ like Celtic & Rangers ~ There was a Catholic Element @ Everton & a Protestant one at Liverpool. The FINANCIAL situation you mention is a bit ironic ! However I understand most of the Footballers in the League are taking pay cuts of between 30 & 50% to pay the sidelined Ground Staff etc. It is rediculous if we are having to pay the GStaff out of our taxes. There are a lot of anomalies arising from the Goverment enforced shutdown. Roll on 2021 when hopefully we can return to NORMALITY !

Blessings & Peace to YOU & YOURS
                Love Brian & Angela 💛💛💛

                • Goldfinch60

Thanks Brian, it is a bit much thought that the PFA are saying that footballers should not have a cut in their pay!
