I will be back

You believe this life is enough for you

I tried, but it is not enough for me

I want that cake and eat it too

Be as happy as I can be

I need excitement and danger now

Flying high, putting myself out there

Not caring at all when where and how

And you’re right, it isn’t fair

They tell me I should retire soon

Enjoy the few years that remain

But I want to dance to a different tune

Drive wildly on the fastest lane

Disregard what is safe to play

Golf and bridge are not my game

I might settle down another day

To do it now would be a shame

Life has so much more in store

Adventures I don’t want to miss

I am a bird and want to soar

Live in happiness and bliss

Venture outside my comfort zone

Even try to live on razor’s edge

All this I have to do alone

But I will be back, I pledge

You are right, after all - it's human nature to want exactly as you express here so well.
I'm frustrated in self isolation for three months here (classed as extremely vulnerable after some chemotherapy) but determined to see it through for there are many things i want to do in my later years.

As 'arnie' said "I'll be back!"

    • FredPeyer

Thanks DA, it would be nice if we could just take off, but as you said, right now we are kind of stuck. I hope you are doing well after your ordeal with chemotherapy and wish you all the BEST!

    • Claudelle DeLuna

      Well penned & expressed, Fred
      my inner rebel understands it,
I've never been one to please
others before me, cause at the
end no one truly cares, if they
accept it or not it's up to them to analyze it, one of the main reasons behind it, is blind socialization, my personal motto, stay true to you...
      Happy Weekend...*C✌

      • FredPeyer

Thank you Claudelle! There are so many things I still want to do, like jumping out of an airplane for example. I agree with you, we need to stay true to ourselves, which does not mean we cannot be there for and spoil our partners (wanted to write 'wife', but realized I need to be pc). Thanks so much for your kind comment, and I am so happy you did NOT call me 'Sir' again, it makes me feel even older than I already am!

The honesty and will to live expressed in this poem are refreshing. Follow your heart, I'd say! Good one.

        • FredPeyer

Thank you ab, no matter how old, inside we still feel we can do anything.

        • Goldfinch60

Such true words Fred, we all want to do what WE want to do so that at the end we will have no regrets.

          • FredPeyer

Thanks Andy, you got it! Hey, life starts at 70!

            • Goldfinch60

              It certainly does!

            • orchidee

When will ya be back? Where ya going?! hehee.

              • FredPeyer

I will ALWAYS be back, if just to hear you sing Orchie! hehee.

              • The Uneducated O.A.P

Nothing wrong with venturing out side your comfort zone, nice one Fred, Bill

                • FredPeyer

Thanks T U O.A.P., how do we know where that zone is if we don't cross over it once in a while?
