Blue and Orange Arrow.

Goldfinch60

As  I walked by My River

Nature was all around me,

Spring was here and all were busy.

The blackbird left the bush

And hopped in front of me

With a mouthful of worms,

His family had arrived.

The swans and geese floated by

In beautiful silence,

And then I saw it,

Like a bright blue and orange arrow

Streaking along the river,

Not deviating.

At a speed so fast

It flashed by,

But I saw it,

One of the most beautiful of birds.

That kingfisher made my day wonderful,

As I walked by My River.

A lovely write Gold. I saw a heron on a river bank opposite to me, not locally though.

Thanks Orchi. We often have a heron on the rooves around here, it even sat on our garden fence a couple of year ago.

Must be the lack of traffic along riverside and the general hullabaloo of the town has relaxed the atmosphere sufficiently. I only saw one once over a stream in herefordshire about 30 yrs ago... so memorable.
Super write reminds us of the beauty of this world.

Thank you d a, it is great to be at one with nature and see these beautiful birds. I have seen quite a few as I have been birdwatching since I was a kid, another thing that my dad gave to me.

I returned from a walk down the country lanes with a pocket full of samples of wild flowers (only small samples so as not to cause any damage to the environment) which I couldn't name so I could identify them at home with the aid of a book. I was completely taken by surprise at the sheer numbers of different flowers now on display - I never counted them but they must have been i
well over 20 just on my short walk.
        great write Andy.

We have large unpolluted lake in our local Woods & Blackbirds - Coots - Ducks - Grebe - Swans & Geese are everyday fare. BUT to glimpse a Kinghfisher - IN FLIGHT - lifts one into a different dimension ! Thanks for sharing !

Such a beautiful sight is the colourful Kingfisher - the same applies here too - nature is returning in places where it has not been for years.
