If only?
That question that has been asked,
Asked so many times.
If only,
Would we have been in a better place,
A better place in our lives.
If only.
What would be different
If we went along that other path.
If only,
We had not met,
Not met that person.
If only,
We had agreed to do that task,
Or take that risk.
If only,
I had not taken up that pen,
And started writing these words.
If only?

Plus - if only I had not started singing. And - if only I had not turned up in 1066! lol.
Certainly true Orchi - on both accounts.

Yes indeed, what if's tend to leave an awful lot to the imagination, dont they..... nice one sir
Neville
They certainly do Neville, the one that always comes to me is 'What if I had not left my first job as an analytical chemist at Harwell?' That was back in 1966!
Andy
Two very potent words Andy - we all repeat them to no avail. Good to have this reminder and thank you.
Thank you Fay, yes we all have them in our lives.
Andy
i want to start all over again (but with the knowledge i have gained in life so far)....... if only I could..... what a wicked dream!
The problem with age is that the experience we pick up over our many years cannot be used when we had the energy and need back in our younger years.
Dream on d a, dream on.
Andy

I recently ran into an old friend in the hardware store. We talked for at least an hour and then he said those words to me, "If only we had married". I didn't know what to say, but after reading your poem, I know now. Would we be in a better place? I love that line, Andy.
Thank you Jane, that question will never be answered but maybe the dream can be imagined.
A question for you though, would you want to change the place in your life where you are at the moment?
Andy
Life didn't turn out to be the fairytale I had hoped for, but in the grand scheme of things, I'm grateful for where I am. I truly believe happiness and beauty comes from the inside, not the outside. It's all in how we choose to see things and what we choose to focus on. John Milton wrote: "A mind can't be changed by time and place. The mind is its own place, and in it self can make a Heaven of Hell, or a Hell of Heaven." Thank you, Andy for the wonderful poem. I read it over a few times now, and it just keeps getting better.
