Listening to Ella.

Goldfinch60

Her voice transcends all around her

As her scat surrounds us all,

She sings like no other

And brings wonder to our world.

So when you listen to Ella

It makes it worth it,

Worth being on this planet.

“Listening to Ella makes it worth being on this planet”  Jamie Cullum

  • Comment from author about the poem: I was watching a programme about Ella Fitzgerald's life and Jamie Cullum was talking about her and he said “Listening to Ella makes it worth being on this planet”, that was so meaningful for me as I have often said that Ella could sing anything, even a telephone directory, and still be wonderful. The You Tube video is the final track on an album called "Ella in Berlin", it is my favourite album of hers and I have almost all of her albums.

    A fine write Gold.
I thought it would be worth us being on this planet, if I duetted with Ella. But I ruined it all, of course.
They said 'Not this planet, but Pluto can be my planet'.

Ella would always put you right Orchi, she had that ability.

Never been a fan of the much acclaimed lady myself. Sarah vaughan, now theres a voice and technique. But hey, each to their own and it's always great to reappraise a talent.

Yes d a, each to there own. I too like Sarah Vaughn but more so I enjoy Cleo Laine. Some friends of mine went to the concert at The Stables Theatre where Cleo sang and at the end of it said that her husband John Dankworth had died earlier that day.
