I was there,
There in the cinema
When Carrie was first shown,
Shown in ‘seventy six,
Not quite hiding behind a chair.
But I was there
The moment she sent the knives,
The three knives at her mother,
And pinned her to a door.
I was there
When a man shouted out.
“ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY!!”
I was there.
At the film’s end
A friend kneeled in front of her grave,
I was there
When the hand shot up,
Shot up from below the ground,
I was there
When the whole audience screamed!
I was there.

- Comment from author about the poem: A few days ago I noticed that the film 'Carrie' was on the TV, it reminded me of the time in 1976 when the film first came out and I went to the cinema to see it. The Manfred Mann song is from 1976 as well.

'We woz there'. You and I remember carving that into tree trunks in Hastings in 1066.
Also into the rocks on the moon before the first Earthings arrived, and we came round from the other side of the moon to welcome them. We might not be human, you and I. lol.
I remember seeing 'Jaws' and the first time, with the scene of the head appearing from bottom of the boat. We all jumped!
I can remember that Jaws image as well.

I missed that one. Never been a horror movie fan.
Laughed out loud @ one hundred and eighty. It clean 'blew me bloody doors off'
That ' One Hundred and Eighty' comment was so true the audience were in stitches.

what concise imagery and flow, makes me wish I was there, too
It was a fun evenings entertainment LBM mainly due to the audience.

Count me in, and add OMEN, FRIDAY THE 13 TH and many more.
Will do Suresh. PSYCHO must be in there as well.

I never saw the film but you have made me curious.
It's not a great film but worth spending a couple of hours watching when you have nothing better to do.
