Tune: St Fulbert

('Ye choirs of new Jerusalem')

********

Psalm 42 v.1

As the deer pants for water brooks

My soul has not forsook

You, Lord my God, but it anew

Does pant and desires you

Psalm 42 v.2

My soul thirsts for God ,when shall I

The living God espy?

When shall I before Him appear

And know His presence near?

Renew us here in arid land

Sustain us by your hand* (*Spirit)

Come quench our thirst where hot and tired

By you we fresh inspired

Is soul, spirit, as body state?

You shall help us not late

Bring refreshment to satiate

We trust your mercies great

Psalm 63 v.1

O God, you are my God, early

Will I seek you, now see

My soul thirsts, my flesh longs for you

To satisfy me true

Psalm 63 v.1

I thirst and long as in dry land

If be as desert sand

A land where there no water be

But you shall supply free

Supply life-giving water so

Your comfort we shall know

And go to share that Adam's ale* (*water)

Which resources ne'er fail

  • Comment from author about the poem: A seasonal poem, while Summer may last! Verse 3: Blame me if it rains. I sort of asked for it here. It won't be arid then! Verse 4: Our soul and spirit can be thirsty, as well as our body. Verse 7: I'm on the booze - Adam's ale = water!
