Best.
The gaze
of dead dreams sees resurrection
yet memory
smothers love's way ahead.
The past
heaves sighs of satisfaction while
stifled future
sinks in silent regret.
The waves
of destiny whisper goodbyes to
briefest of times
when desire spelt pleasure.
The stars
will remember 'tho as will I that
our passion was life
at its brilliant best.

Oooooh a double thank you is coming your way dear Andy - - so pleased you thought the piece worthy of adding to your list of faves.
As far as poetry goes, this is nothing short of superb ... there is an old saying I am trying to remember about best and better.. but for the life of me, I can not remember it .... If I ever do ... I shall send it to ya ...
Neville

Am so glad you liked my few words on Best and so kind of you to say so dear Michael - thanking you loads.
Beautiful words, Fay. Is love a once in a lifetime event? Or can it re-occur? Those were the questions your poem raised in my mind, but whatever the answer, your words do it justice and with beauty attached. - Phil A.
Questions we all ask at one times or another through life dear Phil but never quite find the answers - your comment as always is gratefully appreciated and glad you enjoyed the read.
Amen! an emotive tribute to that quickly burning - passion fuelled romance, we have all lost at least once,
though ultimately depicting a sad feature of a universally shared experience, this work is unmistakably warm and comforting: a signature brush stroke of the writer's unquestionable skill, I imagine
You are more than kind to my efforts at versing L.B. - thank you loads for the visit and read of my take on Best.
