Behind their peers!
How can they say that,
Say that on the news?
That poorer children in education
Are eighteen months
Behind their peers.
Surely in this day and age
Peers is an anachronism,
We should not have peers,
Not now,
Not when it comes to young people,
They should all be educated equally.
But those with money don’t care
As long as they
And their children can tread over others,
It just does not matter!
Are not children due equal education?
Or do those with the power
Not care for others?
Behind their peers!
What a load of bollacks!!!!

- Comment from author about the poem: Another rant! I heard on the news yesterday that children form poorer families are "eighteen months behind their peers". Behind their peers, why are they talking like that, using that words, it just seemed to get to me, hence these words.

Good write Gold.
I was never educated in archery in 1066. Things could have turned out differently if I had been!
Thanks Orchi.
I ws but you had hidden before I could fire at you!

The immortal words I never should have uttered: 'Look up, Sire!'
'Are not children due equal education?' what a pertinent question in any era, but this be an age old lament my friend: 'They are weeping in the playtime of the others
In the country of the free.' Elizabeth Browning

Now ya can't say much fairer than that can ya folks ...
unfortunately the educational arena is still just one of many areas where money has a greater influence than innate academic ability ... oh' and rarely have I ever seen the B word used more appropriately ....

Thank you Neville, yes money does still speak in education - unfortunately.

I fully agree with you. Just a thought though: sadly support at home is often the issue which can make difference - and are those parents with a higher level of education (those generally less poor) better able to provide it?
Thank you Michael, you make a good point, support at home can make a difference due to wealth.

Americanisation of english language useage and unless it's slang i hate it. But it's the younger generation who are more accepting of it than us old gits and if we're hones, it's their world now, we have to stay in our 'has beens' enclosure of 'out of touch'
My granddaughters are well advanced of their age group because their mum has taken on their home education and i'm thrilled to see the results. I shall be meeting them again today for the first time in about 5 months. I'm taking some childish poems I have written which i hope to hear six year old Ruby read aloud.
