Tune: Quem Pastores Laudavere

('Jesus, good above all other')

Philippians 3 v.12-14

***********

Not that I have here attained to

Perfection in Christ, but anew

I press on, and so persevere

To what Christ has called me here

To apprehend, lay hold on, see

That [for] which Christ has laid hold on me

Not that I have arrived there yet

But this one thing not forget

It be to leave things of the past

They be gone, not for ever last

I reach forward unto those things

That are ahead, which Christ brings

I press toward the mark, the goal

Diligent, body, spirit, soul

The prize of the high calling free

Of God in Christ Jesus [it] be

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.7. adding to the theme of a few poets today - going on in life, going forward, etc. One said 'Sensitivity to reproof, or rebuke, is the surest sign we needed it (needed the reproof or rebuke)'. Or - a sign that we need to eat humble pie in our persevering on. How does one make it?!

He got a slice of humble pie and served it up with custard.
Such a silly man was he - it should be served with mustard.

Thanks B&A. A famous day. I know two old school-friends that both have their birthdays the same day as yours (Brian). So they're about 5 million years old too.
Plus the Festival of The Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) that day, if observed in an Anglican way - not so many trappings as in RC.

Me gain! Don't worry. It's due to return to a sort of 'heatwave' again, just as you're all indoors in Colleges, etc. Doh! Not 100 degrees though.
