Today i walked through fields of green
in a foreign land of peace and prosperity
where birdsong plays to the sunlight.
Beneath trees full of leaf playing gentle
shadows upon trim short grasses.
All around are sunlit bright stones
each appearing similar but all unique.
For each bears a name, a soul departed.
Young men from far away brought here
full of life to become pawns in a conflict.
To fight a war beyond their understanding
and pay a price beyond my understanding.
I rarely pray, but today in this beautiful peace
I am moved to utter words for these souls,
the madness of mankind and for our future.

Great words d a, just hope that one day man will see its stupidity and the green grass will cover our lands, hearts and minds forever.

I was interested to read a brief description of the baha'i faith recently. Take a look, it certainly would stop religious wars and differences which once again are in the news.
A sadness always overcomes me when I reflect how those calling for peace are considered idle dreamers and impractical idealists and ineffectual pacifists. Keep hammering at those swords, soon to be plowshares, Dusky.
It is a fine ideal 'ploughshares' but there are too many wild men egos being nurtured to eradicate war..... the creation of the crime title ... "crimes against humanity" is one step along the way of showing that we are all one 'nation'.. the 'nation' of humanity..... yes nation is the wrong word but most wars are nation against nation..... if we were able to rid the world of organised religion then peace may be nearer.
Yes the unending gravestones must move every visitor to those foreign fields D.A. - - your words will pull at hearts of readers as they bring home the utter confusion of wars that use young lives as pawns. A most moving read my friend.
Truly sad that lives are given for someones elses words.... then the world moves on and nothing is achieved.
No real answers but many regrets.
Good write Dusk.
'For each bears a name, a soul departed.
Young men from far away brought here

To fight a war beyond their understanding
and pay a price beyond my understanding.'
these lines capture the bewildering irrationality that underlines my deep frustration at the necessity, yet equally: deplorable reasoning for the existence of the word 'soldier',
movingly insightful write
All those young lives ended.... what would each one of them become had they not been duped into war.... mind boggling.... but each life ended, zilch, caput..... disgraceful waste.
Disgraceful that we pay our governments to buy weapons to blow people to pieces and sell weapons to war mongers.
BIG subject.... November and the eleventh hour draws near, i will be writing more along these lines.
A moving write and may the fields of green serve to teach the human race that the land upon which we live is far more importanrt than all the moment-in-time wars which are of little or no consequence in the overall scheme of things.
Well said ME for yes, that squabble which cost so many lives is now an unnecessary glitch to a world which has moved on..... and so it goes on.
Thank you Dusk Arising for a poignant and interesting write.
Through these troubled times of Covid the world seems to.have been brought together.
Lets hope moving forward in the world all that is going on will bring peace amongst nations and end all types of war
Keep writing ✍ and safe during these challenging times.

Thank you FineB.
this is really meaningful dusk. melissa crown
Thank you. In the two major conflicts WW1 and WW2 the christian church openly supported both the allies and the axis (Nazi) forces in europe and africa. Nazi daggers bore the words 'Gott mit uns' (God is with us).
