Little Shepherdesses
Pray where are they now
my little shepherdesses
pray where might I find them
now they are hiding or gone
...
They are all in the meadow
down there by the dew-pit
a full brace and a half of em
as far as can tell ……………….
...
And pray what are they doing
down there by the dew-pit
are the three of em playing
and with what and with whom
...
Are they brazenly bathing
or just casually lazing
while their flock is a grazing
on lush green meadow grass
...
They be easing out creases
from Sunday best dresses
each one of em covered
In ripe fig sweet caresses ...
...
All perfumed from toes
to the nape of their necks
since discarding their clothes
on them bushes for hanging
...
Oh’ my lord what a sight
for these sore eyes, a smiling
here just biding our time till
They church bells stop clanging
...
My little shepherdesses
all naked they play
down in green meadow
each there away far away
...
Not knowing they’re watched
or do they or don’t they
sharing lips, fingers and tongues
without so much a care or a blush …

They having fun?! A roll in the hay? Glad some people are! Fido won't let me 'frolic'. He's a sheepdog in disguise today, gone to spy on them! heehee.

What a lovely bright and dare i say 'jolly' poem. Great light hearted spirit about it all which is refreshing in todays climate. Good length and uniformity.... to paraphrase you 'it sits on the page very well'.

Ha - - for some reason this write reminded me of the olde ballad - -"Nyphs and Shepherds" being told repeatedly to "Come Away -" - I admit though that those naughty shepherdesses were a bit tempting - -- a big smile raised after this read today Nev........ fank u ever so.......x

All the paths I have walked through natures realm and I've yet to see shepherdesses but I live in hope. Love the write Neville
thank you kindly Michael .. the inspiration for these words came from my viewing of an old engraving entitled la petit shepherdesses ... I did wonder whether you might be familiar with it ...
The innocence of childhood is shown in your words Neville, if only that innocence would progress into their older lives.
Andy
absolutely .. now that would be a fine thing & certainly something to treasure Andy, thanks a mint and stay safe n well out there my friend ...
good enough to make me look-up meaning of 'shepherdesses',
a slide within words to classic literature time's,
some may argue its moral compass when choosing to view some aspects through modern day 'all knowing' glasses of herd mentality, judicial PC morality indexes, maybe...
I though, read your write as a melancholic nod to those classic wordsmiths: who sang their reality with such wonderous creativity,
a unique demonstration of modern mindset's utilising Poetry's inherited tools and skills, to create works that celebrate its mesmeric legacy,
great write
Am so glad you are in my corner my friend .... thank you and take care throughout these most difficult times ..
