In life people can be very competitive
Be it in sport,
In your work,
Or even just in life.
But sometimes you lose,
Be prepared for that.
So you always hope to win,
You must aim to win.
But be ready,
Be ready
To congratulate the winner,
If it is someone else.

Gracious in defeat - the mark of a gentleman (and a lady) . If only a certain adolescent politician would act this way.
Thank you Michael, we must always be gracious in defeat, I played table tennis for over thirty years and when beaten would always congratulate my opponent but I saw it changing as the younger players started coming through.
Politeness doe not cos anything.
Andy
Good write Gold.
And to bear in mind too: 'We may be wrong' e.g. checking a price of goods in a shop, special offers, etc. Then again 'We may be right!'
We may be either Orchi but respect and politeness should not be thrown out the window.
Andy
Now depending what you are referring to, I obviously don't mind winning, but also believe there is much value in a loss. To win I learn nothing, when I lose an argument, debate, I've learnt much if i'm receptive to it.
Take it easy, Andy
Dave
Very true Dave, it is called experience and experience can never be taught.
Take care
Andy
Oh yes, we have to be big enough and ugly enough to take it on the chin when it comes our way. All that makes us a more rounded human being. Being able to laugh at ones self is highly recomended too.
You calling me big and ugly? Right - outside! Swords, pistols or cream puffs at 500 yards?
Of course we do, we must be able to laugh at ourselves as well we can all be so laughable at times and accepting that laughter makes us into a more understanding person.
Dave can I please share those cream puffs with you and d a.

Hi Andy,
A great write.
For me I dont have to be a winner.
I am happy to come second and get the silver or third and get the bronze.
Keep writing ✍ and safe during lockdown.

I have lost many times but am still happy if I have done my best.

Good Evening Uncle Andy ~ A very wise & thought provoking Poem today. As you said in one of your replies *Graciousness in Defeat is less common in the Young than in Seniors who have more Experience* Despite our Youth ~ Angela & I try to have as our MANTRA ~ In Life & Love *Better to have TRIED & LOST ~ than never to have TRIED at all !*. The Olympics (which we love) have Silver & Bronze & *The Taking Part* as ample compensation for NOT getting GOLD ~ BUT ~ in the Presidential Race ~ there are no SILVER MEDALS ! WE always thought TRUMP was Spoiled - Arrogant - Selfish & a Bad Loser ~ NOW WE KNOW ! Thank GOD it hasnt stopped JOE & MALALA from smiling (see our Poem) and enjoying their Awesome Victory. Long may they REIGN ~ AMEN
Thanks for sharing a classic Video ! PD singing *E Luchevan Le Stelle* from Tosca .......
And the Stars were shining
And the Earth was scented
Fragrant She entered
And fell into my Arms !
Very romantic & very poignant
Blessings & Peace to You & Yours
Love Angela Brian & Smokey 💛💛💛
Thank you A and B, as I said in a previous reply I have lost many times but am still happy if I have done my best.
