Tune: Praise my soul

('Praise, my soul, the King of heaven')

Isaiah 55 v.10-13

***********

As rain and snow fall from heaven

And waters the earth so then

Making it bring forth and bud too

Gives seed to sower anew

And gives bread unto us, we eat

God's providings thus complete

So shall His word be that proceeds

From His mouth, it meets our needs

Shall not return to Him empty

But it shall accomplish, see

What He pleases, and shall propser

Where'er He does send it sure

For you shall go out with joy new

And be led forth with peace true

Mounts and hills shall break forth into

Song, creation join with you

Trees of fields shall too clap as hands

In the celebration bands

Instead of thorns shall be fir trees

Instead of briers myrtle trees

It shall be to the LORD a name

Worthy of honour and fame

It be for an e'erlasting sign

Not destroyed but His design

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.7.8.7. metre. In this series there are often references to nature (e.g verses 3 and 4 in this poem). These can be symbolic and literal. There's a whole 66 chapters in Isaiah, though I don't 'go on' for 66 poems. But series not ended yet!

Thanks M. You seen any rain or snow falling upwards? (verse 1). Well, it does return to the skies in its cycle. I expect it's quiet scientific!

I know someone who'd know the answer to that !

I like nature .. I imagine Isiah did too .. apparently he was an identical twin and both of em were called Isiah .. apparently the parents could only tell them apart when they both stood up .. coz one was half inch taller than the other ... that's where the old saying came from ... one Isiah than the other ...
