How Far.

Goldfinch60

Our lives move forward all the time,

We travel those paths ahead of us.

Some may be dark with problems,

Some may be light with answers,

But they are there for us to travel

Into the future laid before us.

Sometimes we are tempted to look back,

Look back at the paths we have travelled,

To see if anything should have been changed.

But the only reason we should look back

Is to see how far we have come

On our journey of life.

Yes, we know it well, us too. We got plenty distance to look back to. 1066, the dinosaurs even!
My only regret was in 1066 when I.... you know it!

Yes we have a very long way to look back, most of it very good though.

'reflection is indeed a tool of evolution', we must recognise our mistakes to have a chance at not repeating them,
another insightful nugget of wisdom Andy

Thank you LB, our passed mistakes gave us the experience to get where we are at this moment in our lives.

Though looking back is inevitable, at our age having something, or the mindset, to look forward is i feel so very important.
Having made it so far we are so lucky. Looking back, if we must, there is a trail of those who didn't make it this far. I know you feel that all too readily in your heart everyday. You are quite remarkable. I think of myself as being a very positive person but i don't see myself as in the same league as yourself.

So true d a, we do look back but we must just look at it as experience, that experience has got us where we are.
Thank you for your kind words, I am positive and have always been like that since I was given a second chance at life, I know you feel the same way.

Such sound advice dear Andy -- those last two lines say it all - - only look back to see how far our journey has taken us -- good and wise thoughts.

          • Goldfinch60

Thank you Fay, that journey ahead is there waiting for us, let us travel it in joy.

I rarely look back - too busy filling each day and planning for the future but when I do try I realise how far I've come. And it's quite sobering.

              • Goldfinch60

Very true Michael, it is very surprising how far we have come in our lives.

Such a wonderful perspective... Sometimes it's like I live in the past while fearing for the future. The journey is sometimes too rough for this weary soul of mine lol. Great poem though and a solid reminder that life is too short!

                • Goldfinch60

Thank you Clara. Your future is ahead of you and to get where you are today has used your past to get you there, looking forward to your future will get easier in every moment and your future will be wonderful.
