PASSION OVERHEATED

Michael Edwards

PASSION OVERHEATED

Passion can be

virtuous

but once

overheated

begets hate

 translating

deep in

 unacceptable

 covid tunnels.

In chains

the only exit

seen

in distant light

a key

for those who choose

a vaccine shot

of humour

soon to cool the heat

and oil the wheels

of life.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A quick scribble last night following some comments against my poem 'I DREW' which I posted a couple of days ago. Sometimes passion/ideology/belief no matter how right and just can become too intense to the extent of obsession/radicalisation when, without detracting from their legitimacy, an injection of humour will help oil and often underline the base messages.

'Tis true. Good write and pic M.
I mean - I heard a churchy joke. Two old ladies did not want to continue going to their church, as it had turned very 'charismatic'. They thought it was some disease they might catch! lol.

I feel sorry for those whose passions are so intense that they are unable to stand back and have a laugh.
Life without humour is like soup without a spoon.

      • orchidee

*Gets the spoon out*. What flavour soup is it?
With 'religion' it can get horrible sometimes. There may be true 'Bible-bashers' not bashing the Bible, but bashing the people with hellfire and brimstone messages/sermons/talks, or as individuals outside of the church building. What is brimstone exactly?! Does Miss B know?

Humour certainly can oil our lives Michael.

Hi Michael,: Comment re your Comment: I think absolutely you are right in terms of the function of humour to oil and ease sometimes difficult situations. It can be a potent weapon though and will, sometimes innocently, sometimes with a more direct purpose, deflect, detract attention from from the argument, which may be, to use your words, right and just.
        Regards Dave

        • Michael Edwards

Point well made - and yes it can be used as a weapon as well.

        • dusk arising

          Lorra wisdom in that!

          • Doggerel Dave

Not quite sure who Lorra is, mate, but can I take the rest as a vote in the affirmative?

            Dave

            • dusk arising

'Lorra' it brit slang for 'a lot of'. And yes, definitely an affirmative.

            • Suresh

Without humor, life would truly be tragic.
Thanks for this dose, I'll be back for my second

              • Michael Edwards

Then I'd better start writing - thanks Suresh.

Laughter that comes from humour makes the whole world light up with beautiful smiles which appear easily when oil of compassion bequeaths its balance. Super write Mike.

The vaccine has always been around but sadly not all take it. If everyone took an injection of humour wouldn't it be a great planet.
