One hundred years ago he was born
And for over sixty years I have known him,
Known him through his music.
A man who brought jazz into my life,
Opened my life into a world.
A world of cool and bebop,
Of trad and modern.
So many styles
That started with that one tune,
Take Five played on the gramophone.
One of the many records
Played by my father.
Then came the day I saw him,
Saw him play.
This little wizened old man
Creeping slowly to his piano,
And the first notes were played
A web came out from those notes
That surrounded the audience
And pulled us into his music,
An evening I will never forget,
As the man that brought me into jazz
Played to me,
Taking me into his life.
A man I will never forget
And will forever play.
Brubeck lives on,
Lives on in my life.

Good write Gold.
How old are WE, us two, exactly?! Does anyone know?
Age is just a number, I lost track at 31, 376,409 years.
Andy
Did we have any extra seconds in any of those years, like we had once, fairly recently? And if so, did we spend the extra second all at once?!
Do you remember that time 22,150,201 years ago when we made brontosaurus bergers and sang 'Rock with the Caveman?
What a talent and what an unforgettable sound Brubeck made in his day - so pleased dear Andy that you actually saw his performance - his music is will truly live on.
Thank you Fay, he was (and is) wonderful.
Andy
Great epitaph to a worthy artist, Andy.
Regards Dave
Thank you Dave, he certainly was a great jazzer.
Andy
Nice music whilst i read your tribute. Of course i float away on the lyrical playing of paul desmond.
Of course you would float away with Paul , he was a great saxophonist. You must have heard Jazz at Oberlin where Brubeck and Desmond had an argument before playing, they continued it in stage in their playing.
Andy
sadly this music is new to me, but enjoyed the clip,
may he rest in peace
He is/ was a great jazzer Mek.
Andy
And long may his music endure.
It will always be there Michael.

Nice tribute Andy, never saw a wizened old Brubeck step up to his piano but been amazed by the sound made by a similarly wizened Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown.
