opposites attract

dusk arising

she wrote a love poem
he wrote an odd ode
late into the evening
in their musing abode

She played piano
romantic sonatas
He practiced euphonium
chaotic cantatas

she danced ballerina
tchaikovsky's white swan
he thumped to the pistols
and pogo'd along

forty years later
grandkids at their feet
he bought her a tandem
she gave him a toilet seat

harmonious indifference
to what does not matter
for joy fills their home
where toddlers pitta-patter

now he practices yoga
and she repairs firearms
both totally sold
on each others charms

an oddly matched couple
but an obvious fact
lifes a funny old game
when opposites attract

  • Comment from author about the poem: Heres one I posted a while back. Im not writing much at the moment, lockdown dulling my juices. -The pistols- mentioned in the poem is of course The Sex Pistols the famous 1970s punk band who fans did a dance called - pogoing - doing the pogo..... jumping up and down as if you were on a pogo stick..... look it up on you tube if you have no idea what any of that is. P.S. Punk music was completely alien to my ears.

Very good words d a, yes opposites do attract, I have seen it in some of our friends thinking how can that work but it does. Life is so strange but we wouldn't be without it.

Wasn't into the Sex Pistols - too down market don't you know. But, yes, it is odd how opposites can attract - we have some very odd couples here in the village - hope none of them read this.

I was in an odd couple, it didnt last, she wanted me to dress up as her bride.... it wasnt at all what had given me a twinkle in the eye when she said she had lesbian tendencies.

Their magnet like attraction kept them both out of trouble, I believe, dusk. Stanzas swung along nicely.

So true attraction a powerful thing no stopping it opposites or not. Be way to boring if we were all the same in couples.

Its funny when you wonder - what on earth does she see in that waster - or similar. By the way, if you get a lot of ///////s in your posts its because you are using apostropes in authors comments and when you title a piece, theres a glitch in the program. It gets worse, if you edit anything they will multiply themselves.... avoid apostrope commas...... it becomes a habit, a bad habit because they are acceptable in THIS comment box ...examples:- Here's, there's, your's.

brilliant! worth reading a few times
as that melodic tone and natural rhythm makes us read a little quick and we slip - past, some wonderful linguistic acrobatics that you've crafted easily relatable, even for someone without an ounce of music 'culture' to call upon,
great execution and a fun read, definitely agree, worth reposting once in a while
