No Holidays.

Goldfinch60

There are so many beliefs

That many people have.

Some believe in Christ,

Others in Judaism,

Or in Buddha.

There are so many religions

Where people get trapped.

But some people are atheists

And have no belief in any gods,

But they do have a major problem

As in atheism there are no periods of time

Where there are holidays,

As there are in all the religions.

I only read recently of one in an accident. He said he came out of it a stronger atheist. Doh! that's just digging oneself deeper into a hole, I say.
Jehovah's Witnesses don't put up Christmas trees, I heard.

"Just a thought"??? Go on Andy - you keep thinking if that keeps you occupied. But I'm both an atheist and an agnostic. So do come back and we can have a chat - after which you can have more thoughts as you sort that lot out. 🙂
Agreed - no holidays. Though it is immaterial now you've retired. So this is your big chance....

I used to be a committed christian, I was a Chaplain at one point but when dementia took my wife from me, a wonderful lady who praised and sung the christian god's praises all her life I realised that the lies we had been told in the christian organisation showed such untruths, I was actually at a church service when I gave up christianity and it was like a weight had been lifted from me.
I still believe there is a god but it is My God or My Spirit as I refer to it. That Spirit is within me and forever will be. Organised religion is just a con.

Hey up, Andy. I don’t want to have a debate over your belief – I have always maintained that if religious belief kept a person a happy, functioning human being, provided it didn’t hurt another, it was good.
But I am interested in why the exit of your wife from this life (something that will happen to everyone of us) Caused such an adverse reaction to the church you were so obviously deeply embedded in.
I also feel your original entry was more light hearted and funny than most (including me) have taken it to be. Cautionary tale there? Perhaps one I should take to heart.

I agree with your statement about individuals beliefs should not be thrust upon others.

It wasn't the 'exit' of my wife that was a release for both of us from the f*****g dementia, she was lost to everybody in the last few months but the church just kept saying that she would be fine as that was THEIR belief, that is why I now believe that organised religion is a lying farce.

Yes it was meant to be a humorous poem but it went in a different direction as things do sometimes.

I still smile at the words of Ricky Gervaise - there are 3000 gods in the this world, Christians only believe in one - atheists and Christians are, therefore, only one god apart.

Now that's interesting - Christians with a capital C yet the word atheist with a lower case 'a'. A clear case of inequality.

Very true Michael, I have no belief in organised religion now but I still believe My Spirit is within me.
