Embers
Is what I feel deep in my heart
the love I pledged so long ago
the promise we will never part
said with joy and face aglow
or is the fire slowly dying
losing its ferociousness and heat
the soul resigned to silent crying
shuffling down a lonely street
now, remnant embers faintly glow
memories of fire fierce and hot
retaining heat to let me know
you still are all I ever sought
I hear her Smile
I heard her radiant
smile
floating across the dark
tasted her earnest
words
sweetly on my lips
felt her body
move
deep inside mine
saw her sweet
scent
in swirling color
love
a fabulous bouquet of senses

Don't normally comment on love poems Fred... Yours came to my notice owing to it's position on the list.
Nice juxtaposition of two aspects of a long term relationship.
Found third stanza of Embers particularly true and poignant.
Thanks Dave, for replying anyway! Yes, that third stanza is kind of like I feel. When one has been together for nearly fifty years, one has to be grateful for at least a little bit of 'heat'.
Two good ones Fred. I am putting a love poem up as well today.
Andy
Thanks Andy, have not seen it yet, but will!
Nice words 🙂 liked reading
Thanks so much yellowrose!
Good writes Fred.
Thanks orchie, you of all people should know how it feels in old age. What are you now, something like a thousand years old?
Yep! Thanks Fred. lol.
True love lives on within us. But what does it make of us.... all we have is to follow our honest emotion. Led by our poetic heart.
A great emotional write Fred.
Thank you d a, like that 'led by our poetic heart'!
Memories transformed as minds sense perception, just as your words
Thank you for your thoughtful comment!

LOL, and I can give you a discount as well! Thanks so much Neville!
I very rarely ... and I do mean very rarely indeed comment more than once on a single page .. but this one/two was more than worthy ...
