Happiness, do you remember that word?
When joy and laughter were part of this world
A Summer holiday, and an a ice cream Sundae
Love and affection could be on display
But tough times hit, like we never thought
Society stopped for the fear of being caught
Taken by Covid or dobbed to the police
For the last 12 months there’s been no peace
Loved ones lost, families kept apart
For the NHS we do our part
Society divided in what to do, should I take a vaccine or see it through
Freedom of speech, gone out the door
A difference of opinion? This means war!
Only together can we all pull though
The needs of many don’t outweigh the few
We pray for and hope for a better day
For a summer holiday and an ice cream Sundae

But the sun is shining today through my windows facing east. Warmth upon my back and contented happiness in my frame.
Such small everyday recurrences bring a smile to my face. And yes, to sit relaxed in a place foreign to me beneath this same sunlight enjoying an ice cream sundae would be bliss.
Days not too far away i hope.
The days certainly seem brighter now than when this poem was wrote. It’s a beautiful day today as spring draws in upon us. Thank you again for commenting

Hi does this work now! Thank you got letting me know
Yes, works just fine.
'Freedom of speech, gone out the door
A difference of opinion? This means war!'..
how depressingly apt..
a good read, an all encompassing summation of this diabolic epidemic's tale - as witness
to humanity's capacity to survive and eventually: prevail!
You know the first time I posted this on FB a a month ago the first comment was,
Erm but freedom of speech hasn’t gone!
That reply to my poem couldn’t have summed it up more.
Lockdown has been such an interesting test on society as we know it. I’ve tried to be so open to other people’s opinions, understand what fears drive people and to take a step back from getting sucked in. Friendships broken, so much because everyone fights for their own truth
Well said, mrbleasdale, 2020 did change the world. Hopefully, at the end, there will be some good too to balance all the bad.
Yes the world has changed but within this sadness good things have come, so many people help others out of the goodness of their hearts and many of these you do not hear about, hopefully that kindness will continue when we return to a new normality.
