Optimism can be a prison
That hides and covers a dark depression
The angry world looks at you
And thinks that no pain touches you
They often think that they’re a mess
While you are perfect
Never stressed
As if your life has no drama
Your never hurt
You have no trauma
What they miss
Is your misery
Thinking you are never in need
You open your heart
To those you love
Not wanting to see their hurt
You push your positive stuff
Hoping to help them off the edge
Where you will be left
To carefully tread
Trying not to fall in
Hung by a thread
Your heavy head roars
You feel close to dead
But when they talk to you
All they hear
Is the perspective you see from
That seems so clear
Helpful
And not afraid
Not desperate
And unashamed
But your drowning
Under your optimism
The finest prison
You’ll ever be in.

- Comment from author about the poem: Dont forget to check on your optimistic friends! They may seem fine on the outside but they could be just trying to protect you from their pain!

So true ! A well written piece of writing . It has to be difficult to hide your pain ... lonely , I guess
Thank you yellowrose!
I am always optimistic, when you have been given a second chance at life as I have there is absolutely nothing to be worried about.

Thank you Goldfinch! I totally agree with you there really should be no worry! I feel what I was trying to express in this poem is that an optimist may have a brighter perspective and different judgement of life circumstances but also like any other human have seasons of life where trying to understand all of the rush of emotions and personal experiences can still leave them feeling a little overwhelmed. Often being overlooked for their generally optimistic lifestyle and it can be lonely or confusing! Optimism is a choice and generally a trait of someone’s personality so when people are used to coming to you for encouragement they often don’t think to check in on you!
the potential for toxicity in every aspect of existence, exemplified with insightful clarity in your expressive write..
too much of anything just clouds our perspectives, being considerate is such a wonderful trait of empathy, but at the cost of our own 'well being',
it can so quickly become a corrosive part of our personality,
but expecting other's to pick-up on our suppressed suffering, is tantamount to blind hope..
better I think to acknowledge/face it as a weakness and start working on proactive solutions ourselves, find a way to supplement it and balance out its potential for harm, by insuring we nurture our own essential quality of self-salvation and insuring we only share as much of ourselves as we can afford to give: without expectations of reciprocation..
we gota protect ourselves, so we can be healthy enough to support those who actually care about us, without giving-up our instinctive nature for empathetic consideration of others, a balancing act of continual self awareness
Well said thank you!
I love this stoical message. It's so true though, optimism can become a front.
Thanks friend! Glad you enjoyed it!
