Staring Out the Window

Accidental Poet

Staring out the window

Thinking of life’s many roads

A fork to the left and right

Choices of which way to go

The twists and turns

And stops along the way

Then knowing the time has come

Good-bye so hard to say

Day by day

Year after year

A collection in the heart

Of endless smiles and tears

As the heart grows old

The memories that keep it warm

Full of keepsakes

Treasures it has worn

The quest for love

Always chasing a dream

Like the anticipation

Of a sunrise so serene

Still staring out the window

The world a little older

My long-lost love

Within my heart I hold her
