Crossing the Finish Line

Accidental Poet

The starting line

On the day you’re born

Your life’s mission

To be filled with smiles worn

From infancy to senior

A long scenic road

Share some laughs along the way

To lighten your load

When love finds your heart

A smile will find your soul

A feeling of euphoria

Hand in hand to hold

Quickly the years will pass

 Watch how the page turns

The fire within your heart

Passionately it burns

Wedding bells

And baby showers

Photographs and graduations

A steady flow of flowers

A successful career

Raising a family on love

Maybe the secret to life

And the meaning thereof

Looking in the rear-view mirror

You tried to follow design

A life full of smiles

Crossing the finish line

Excellent tribute to your dad. Indeed an excellent tribute to a man's life and all it may contain.

I'd have put a verse in there about how he came to gain my deep respect and admiration as I matured although in writing this piece i guess youre already showing that aren't you.

Well yes da, that's the lines between the lines. But thanks.

Wonderful tribute to your dad, may that finishing line still be a long way away.

      Andy

      • Accidental Poet

Unfortunately Andy, that day is approaching I believe in the near future. But to my Dad, it's not soon enough. He's been ready to go for about two years now. My mother passed in 2008, most of his friends are already gone. And he doesn't understand why he still wakes up. He stays in bed most of the day and night, and has little to no interest in eating. He's told us he doesn't want to go to a hospital or have hospice come into the house to help take care of him. So we're trying to honor his wishes, but it's like we just have to sit back and let him die. I can't even express how hard that is to do. But thank you for the read and comment. ; )

Thank you SC, I just wish my Dad was as positive. (read note above to Goldfinch60).
