I’m Just a Poet

Accidental Poet

I stumbled onto poetry

Out of tragic family loss

Suddenly I heard a calling

The calling from my heart’s boss

Enslaved was I

To write down in words

When lyrical wheels turn

Driving the emotions I’ve heard

Chorus:

I’m just a poet on the pages

Of My Poetic Side

Composing feelings from my heart

That refuse to hide

And many other poets

Much the same as me

Writing from their hearts

Just being who they need to be

Where the words come from

I don’t really know

But it’s a boat upstream

I just have to row

And sometimes

The words run dry

Causing me to ponder

As to reasons why

Chorus:

I’m just a poet on the pages

Of My Poetic Side

Composing feelings from my heart

That refuse to hide

And many other poets

Much the same as me

Writing from their hearts

Just being who they need to be

Far worse things in this world

Than poets chasing words

Like quarreling people

Shouting obscenities absurd

If poets ruled the world

Certainly, a beautiful place

Teach the world to write poetry

You’d see a smile on every face

Big thumbs up there, AP. I can definitely relate to “Where the words come from I don’t really know” and why do they too often come when I'm just dropping off to sleep?

Thanks Dave. Maybe you need to get on the same bedtime schedule as your muse.

So true AP, I stumbled on poetry when I saw an artwork my daughter was creating, I had to write about it then and the writing has never stopped.
