The subtle changes;
a chill in the air,
dusk approaching early
days shorter, nights longer,
and winter on it's way.
A while back,
seeing the woolens in the mall
I wondered,
at the winter clothes here
in Bahrain, in the Gulf
where there's only scorching summers!
Silly me;
me who knows only
the summer heat and the monsoon rains
of the tropics,
the winter is unknown;
a novel experience.
Then come November, and
as the temperature dropped
there's a glow in my heart
warming me up
the excitement of a season
not yet experienced.
The winter
with it's cold chilly
mornings and nights,
freezing winds
and the mist creeping in
from the Arabian sea
is here ..
And I, wrapped up
in my winter wear,
a mug of hot chocolate
and softly humming heater
warming me up
snuggled cozily by the window,
reveled in the happiness
winter evoked in me..
As everything unique
in this beautiful tiny Island,
even in winter
the sun shone down
golden and bright every day
and the stars twinkled
in a clear night sky.
The sky, blue and cloudless,
the light so intense,
that, the first winter in Bahrain
was the best.

Andy
Thank you so much Andy :). These experiences are what makes one's life rich. So many new things to see and experience, new culture, new friends.
Good write J.
Thank you so much 🙂
Bahrain, should enlist you
for their advertising campaigns..
immersivity imbued, into each purposed syllable
and drawn-breath, line break..
brilliant!
Ha, ha . I hope they do. Jokes apart, it's a country that holds a special place in my heart, my second home, after India.
Thank you very much 🙂
Lovely perspective on something taken for granted... And moaned about!
Thank you Very much 🙂
Aaaah winter and no mention of snow, black ice, heavy frosts and freezing fog. I could enjoy my winters without those.
But you make a winter sound so exciting, maybe after the pandemic i could find the lovely new kind of winter you describe just an air fare away.
A snowy winter is something I have not experienced. When we visited UK, it was summer and though we travelled up to Edinburgh and Glasgow, there was no snow.
You must visit Bahrain, it's a very beautiful Island, friendly people. It's an expat friendly country.
I can recall many a winter skiing, but as always expected, the freezing chill and ah! the hot toddy.
Most would not think of winter in the desert, but sand absorbs cold just as it does heat, and thus the temps can vary 40+ degrees every day.
Loved your poem
