Humane Relations.

Doggerel Dave

Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
Not absent - still here!
Keep Calm and Carry On Poeming. 😂

I joined a so called mixed group I won’t name

With a hidden, no – overt objective;

Shrinking a handful of men was the game;

Several women would make it effective.

(Never had I encountered such excess

In women with whom I had relations;

During a long life some few I confess

Were serious, others great flirtations.)

I had heard and witnessed misogyny,

Challenged it as well, but this about men

Even had a name; I checked – misandry;

It sucks, but what should I make of it then?

Perhaps I will emerge a much changed man:

An admirer of Germaine and sisters

Now traduced, calumniated, what can

Be left? Align myself with my ‘brothers’?

A coven of harridans and harpies

Are on their way to seek me out I’m sure.

That’s paranoia - about what? crazies?

I just won’t go there – I’ll self talk my cure:

Are gender relations really so dark?

Wake up – it’s a local aberration;

Most women’s attitudes are not so stark -

Many won’t agree to my castration…..

  • Comment from author about the poem: Confession: I had fun doing this BUT before anyone lets loose – let me make my own position VERY clear: This is based on an experience of mine; in no sense, however, would I seek to diminish women’s very legitimate claims against the patriarchy. This was one very small skirmish in a long and protracted battle by women for equality of opportunity in which I (unfortunately) became very briefly involved. In any fight there is bound to be collateral damage. Go girls/ladies/women….

    For a long time I have been composing a poem on the disastrous follies of the patriarchal control, and maybe I’ll finish it someday.
    Meanwhile, thanks for putting yourself out there

      Oh go on Suresh, please get it done, make it a project priority. Women need more men's voices out there for ultimately the good of both women and men.

      In my long life I have treated everybody equal and respect all their ways as long as respect is always to the fore. I used to work as deputy administrator in one job where my boss was a lady and all the other staff were ladies, there were never any problems or arguments between any of us.

        Thanks Andy - unfortunately that's not the situation everywhere....

        what ever one may or may not think .. and regardless of preferences or persuasion .. Not one of them could legitimately argue that todays feast was neither original or otherwise quite brilliant ...
