Moonlight On The Ocean

H.R.Powell

Moonlight on the Ocean

Why is it so quiet?

Even the sea is hushed

Under its silken robe

No gull cries

No foam stirs

Even the drunks

Have taken to sleep

Milky moonlight

Draped across a turbulent sea

Resting for once

Taking a breath

Looking off my balcony

And hoping for peace

But it’s temporary

The moonlight on the ocean

  • Comment from author about the poem: From my home, I can see the ocean and some nights when the moon is full, bright, and when the sky is clear, it paints a beautiful picture of calm and peace that is so opposite from the usual view. These nights stand out to me in my memory for their beauty, and the welcome quiet that seems to come with them.
