Sleep

Accidental Poet

Playing round and round

That song in my head

Like a broken record

As I lay awake in bed

I’ll turn on the radio

Find another song to take its place

But I’ll never get back to sleep

Unless my mind is an empty space

I could count sheep

“Baa baa baa” they ran

Now the sheep sing The Beach Boys?

“Baa Baa Barbara Ann”

I gotta get some sleep

Maybe I’ll watch politics on TV

That will bore me to death

In minutes I’ll pass out certainly

Then my eyes open

And I realize it was all a dream

Or am I dreaming I woke up?

Sleeping the whole time it seems

Earworms can be so annoying sometimes AP, I often walk around the croquet court humming or singing "What is a youth" by Nino Rota.

I really like this. If I want to get my wife to sleep I need a video of the antiques road show. I love that show . But my wife is asleep 5 minutes into it .lol. I enjoyed your poem. Thanks for sharing.
